Before any organization considers promoting its product in the Veterans Health Administration (VA), one of the first things it should consider is whether their product is relevant in the market. Does it align to the unique needs of the population?
A big challenge for most manufacturers, however, is to even understand who the VA patients are before they can delve into the unique needs of those patients.
Although the VA comprises approximately 90% male veterans, there are approximately two (2) million women veterans in the US, and that number is steadily increasing.
Approximately 40% of women veterans use the VA for some or all of their healthcare. As well, after an active duty woman is discharged from military service and if she has served in-theatre, she is eligible to receive all of her healthcare in the VA for five (5) years following their discharge.
Women who have served our country face significantly higher incidence of chronic illness than those who’ve not served our military.
